OBS Disaster Relief Website Launch; Reinforcing Our Mission

Well first and foremost OBS would like to thank all of those who attended the official OBS website launch back in January. The board of directors and I were truly humbled by the outpouring of support that night as well as over the last several months. The impact of your shared passion for reaching those affected by disasters was not only felt through your prayers and desire to serve along with us, but also through the financial partnerships that were formed.

Because of your generosity, OBS was able to purchase much needed equipment and upgrade current platforms in order to respond more efficiently and effectively to local and regional disasters as they arise. Your financial support is not only impacting those who are suffering due to disasters and humanitarian crisis, but more importantly, it is having an eternal impact as we share the hope that can only be found in the person and the work of the Lord Jesus Christ.

During the website launch, I had the opportunity to share our model in serving those in need. That our organization is not only passionate and skilled in providing humanitarian relief, but that we are equally passionate in offering spiritual support. That we are not simply there just to rehab a home or provide medical assistance; there are plenty of other organizations that offer that. But at OBS we want to build lasting relationships with those that we serve. We believe that God is sovereign and because of that, as believers, when our lives intersect with others it is purposeful. That it is an opportunity to either build up a fellow brother or sister in Christ who is facing difficult circumstances, or it is an opportunity to share the Gospel with someone who has yet to be awaken to the truth.

But what makes our mission even more unique is that our ministry does not end with those that we serve, but extends to those who serve alongside us. Proverbs Chapter 27 Verse 17 says, “As iron sharpens iron, so one person sharpens another.” Our mission profile at OBS is structured in order to disciple those who serve with us. Each morning our day starts with a devotional. As a team, we get into God’s Word right out of the gate. After our devotional we will have a time of prayer. We will ask God to guide us, to watch over us, and to give us divine appointments. After prayer, we will have a mission brief outlining our objectives for the day and then we will eat breakfast together. After breakfast, we will load up and head out to wherever it is that God has called us. And when we have used our gifts and abilities that God has given us to make an impact, we will return to our jump off point where we will have a quick debrief, rehab gear, and then have a team dinner. We want to cultivate a culture of family at OBS because that is what we our, brothers and sisters in Christ coming together to serve those in their darkest hour…all for the glory of God.

Providing Tornado Disaster Relief To McCracken County, KY & McNairy County, TN

On the operational front, OBS has already deployed twice this year, once to McCracken County, Kentucky and most recently to McNairy County, Tennessee; two communities that were devastated by tornadoes. In both cases, OBS was able to respond quickly to assist in tree and debris removal as well as provide spiritual support for those affected. The McCracken County deployment was particularly special for OBS because we had the opportunity to present our first OBS mission patches to two volunteers that joined us on the deployment. It was incredible to see the discipleship model in action as we met early for our devotion and prayer before stepping off to assist in relief. A special thanks to Bellview Baptist Church in Paducah, KY and First Baptist Bethel Spring in McNairy County, TN for your support. We pray that God continues to bless your ministries.

Well as I close, I want to thank you again for your support. We are excited about what God is going to do in and through this organization in the coming year. As we look over the landscape of our world today, the brokenness and the hopelessness of a world without Christ is as evident as ever. And it is our prayer that God will use OBS on the front lines of the advancement of the Gospel here locally, regionally, nationally, and globally. Continue to follow us here on our website and on Facebook as we will provide updates on our mission deployments and future projects. Make our mission, your mission.

Sincerely,

Corey Mullins
